CAG Announcement #10 as of April 10, 2025

CAG-005: Servicing Hazardous Drug Compounding Primary Engineering Controls (Revised 2025)

Due to their toxicity, hazardous drugs need to be handled and prepared in work zones and safety cabinets that are maintained with negative airflow to the buffer room and are exhausted out of the pharmacy.  Servicing and maintaining primary engineering controls for these environments are critical to maintain safety for both the service workers and the pharmacy technicians. Servicing them involves specific industry accepted procedures. Dealing with and handling hazardous drugs may also require deactivation and decontamination of the device and other related items.

This revision of CAG 005 addresses the current best practices for servicing and maintaining primary engineering controls as well as deactivation/decontamination. Guidance for the creation of a negative pressure work zone are also described.
